A biometric time clock is the latest in time management systems which
are proving way better than any other clocking systems as they are more effective in preventing time theft and ‘buddy
punching’, common with clock cards.
However, despite its obvious and apparent advantages, these units are
surrounded by plenty of myths which make many companies hesitant to adopt this
latest electronic clock machines. We
list below some common myths and try to debunk them and present the reality to
you.
·
Myth: Biometric time
clocks store employee fingerprints.
This is not true as they do not
actually store fingerprint images. All it does is capture a mathematical
representation which kind of summarizes the fingerprint image. Once it has been
registered, the representation file gets stored. However, under no
circumstances, can it facilitate recreation of the actual fingerprint.
·
Myth: Biometrics is only
available with time clocks.
It’s not true as it can also be
easily used with a kiosk or desktop applications as well. Using USB biometric
peripheral, biometric readers can be easily added to any computer or any other
device having a USB port. This provides you with the flexibility to upgrade
your system anytime to a biometric time clock.
·
Myth: Biometric time
clocks don’t work in cold or dirty environments.
Contrary to this myth, biometric
systems can work seamlessly in any environment. In case the fingers get
embedded with dirt, it can affect the fingerprint readers since dirt will not
facilitate correct reading. However, the multi-spectral technology is fairly
resistant to environmental conditions like bright ambient light, topical
contaminants or even moisture.
·
Myth: Biometric enrolment
is time-consuming and hard to manage.
People perceive the task to be
difficult. But the truth is that it is normally just a one-time activity and
later can be easily managed remotely. One just has to do the biometric
enrolment in the system by punching at any biometric terminal. This requires no
administrative assistance. Once done, they can be easily managed even remotely
through the web-based admin-module.
Definitely, all biometric clocks are
not same. One must select the right technology and right time clock which best
meets the organizational needs.
